Diminished value claim with Farmers: how to document and present it

A process walkthrough for a third-party diminished value demand when Farmers is on the other driver's claim. We do not describe that company's internal procedures.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or acting on behalf of Farmers. Farmers and any related marks belong to their owner. Nothing on this page is a statement by Farmers, and nothing here describes that company's internal claim procedures. We publish general consumer information about documenting and presenting a diminished value claim.

If another driver was responsible and that driver was insured by Farmers, your diminished value claim is a third-party property damage claim. You are not bound by that driver's policy wording. What you have is a claim file and an adjuster.

The steps below are the same consumer process we publish for every major carrier: identify the property-damage adjuster, put the demand in writing with evidence, and respond to a formula-based figure with your documented estimate. We do not invent how often this company pays.

Put the claim in writing

Ask for the property-damage claim number, the assigned adjuster's name, and a written channel. Send a dated letter with the repair invoice, history report if you have one, and your documented estimate. Keep copies.

If the response is a formula

Compare their base value, damage modifier, and mileage modifier to your file. Market evidence for the specific vehicle is the usual reply — not an argument about the company's reputation.
